Things Seen, Snapped

There seem to be more and more photos lately that I feel are worth sharing, but don’t necessarily fit into a story arch of any sort.  Just moments from the road, I guess you could say.  Or maybe I’m becoming lazy.  The photos below were all taken on the road in the northeastern Indian states of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.

Random village, Assam: Proud father and daughter pose for a photo.

Mike looking insignificant on the way to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh.

Transporting fossil fuels by human-power.  Kind of the opposite of a car.  Middle of nowhere, Assam.

Reflections in a lake on Majuli Island, in the middle of the Bramaputra River, Assam.

Storm’s a’ brewin’ over Majuli Island.

Cows and people, all crossing the Bramaputra on this rickety old boat. I caught the next boat.

Cool dudes surround me completely within 2 minutes of parking my bike and waiting for Mike to grab a snack.

Shopkeeper and his cool shirt.

This is what happens when the mountain decides to fall on the road.

Cool dudes bathing themselves and their motorcycles (they weren’t all four on one vehicle).  Yeah ‘merica!  and Vin Diesel!

See that elephant?

And check out this beetle!

Oh Mr. Sarma, we miss you, and your family, and your wife’s cooking.  And Kalu!

Street performance by the police drama troop, in the border town of Moreh India.  This is a pretty rough and tumble outpost, with lots of military and guys with machine guns walking around, and insurgent troubles, but they still manage to get everybody out on the street for a little weekend outdoor theater!

Deforestation, Manipur, India.

View from our hotel window in Imphal, Manipur.

Another instance of us being surrounded, this time at a cafe.  Often, if we stop for more than a couple minutes, there is a crowd of people around us, so we often try to take care of business as fast as possible.

Inquisitive look?  Alcoholism?  Mental problems?

The cool kids pose for a photo.  Outside of Imphal, Manipur.

How many school children can you fit in a tiny van?  Imphal, Manipur.  Actually I used to own a van quite like this in Korea.  It was awesome.

Uncle’s Kitchen.  ‘nough said.

I think the man in gray and the girl are father daughter, but not sure.  Also not sure if the other people in the photo have any relation to them or just happened to be standing really close.  You never know in India.

Who knew rice needed a place to sleep too?

Happy rickshaw riders.

Some soldiers building a lookout tower on the road.  Manipur.
