Northeast India – Photos of Awesome People!

So many incredible people, met in the randomest of places, and the most serendipitous of ways…All in my first three months in India, and all in India’s “remote” northeast!

Brothers from other mothers – Prince and Mike, in North Lakimpur, Assam.

Mr. Sarma, who hosted us for a night, and his extended family, and maybe some neighbors.  Bisnawath, Charali, Assam.

Left: Geological surveyors who fed us, random village in Arunachal Pradesh.  Middle: Lovely villagers in Senge, AP.  Right: Lady rock breakers in the clouds, middle of nowhere on the mountainside, AP.

Left: National Guard Commandant, who befriended and fed us numerous times during a three day provincial shut-down, Jenge, AP.  Middle: Us and some Tibetan grandpas who escaped Tibet on horse with the Dalai Lama back in the day, Tawang, AP.  Right:  Most of the same folks again, slightly tipsier, in front of Buddhist paraphernalia and the Tibetan flag.

Left:  I had to drive everybody home.  Middle: Me, Shaky, Pema (orange shirt), and her school children in Loomla, outside of Tawang, AP.  Right:  We met up with Mr. Sarma again in Guwahati!

Left: Indrajit (hosted us for 10 days in Guwahati, thanks dude!), his cousin Chandrani on our last night.  Middle: Bu, me and Chandrani chomping on cake for Bu’s b-day.  Right: Indrajit sees us off.

Left: Bye Chandrani, we’ll miss you!  Middle: The Shaky crew at the Sangai Lodge in Moreh (just across the border from Myanmar).  This was the first place we stayed in India, and the only place in Moreh that you even have a chance of not getting bed bugs.  Right:  Us with Babung, who hosted us in Imphal, Manipur!  His wife was the first female doctor in Manipur.

Left and middle: Cute kids i Technopal, Manipur, at their boarding school at the top of a mountain.  The principal was nice enough to let us sleep at the school, and we played frisbee with the kids, and their resident stray dog stole my shoe.  Right: Some more boarding school kids (this is really common in India), this time in Nagaland.  Mike, Daniela and I gave short talks to the kids, who were really smart and had lots of good questions to ask, which we could understand perfectly, because they all speak fluent English.

Left: Nagaland!  Middle: The gang of 6, plus Karina, Yan, and Lolo (being aerodynamic on the bike) in Dimapur.  Right: We get our act together, and the eight of us ride together for about 10 minutes before Karina and Yan split off to head west, and we head north to Assam.

Finally, Minsung and Daniela have taken off on their own to head towards Delhi, but Katya, Mirek, Mike and I stay in our bungalows on Majuli Island in the Bramaputra River for an extra day just to chill, before splitting apart to head towards Arunachal Pradesh.  Hope to see you all again!
