Hoi An to the Vietnam/Laos Border

From Hoi An, we had to book it to the border to get out of Vietnam before our visas expired.  Our convoy of seven shakies all took off together, and this is our story.

Leaving Hoi An.

The landscape starts to get hillier.

Maybe our second night out of Hoi An, we passed through an area with no guesthouses, and while trying to find a place to camp, we were invited into a local's home for the night.  They let us use their kitchen to cook, and we all sat around and played the guitar, drank beer, and tried to communicate with each other as best we could.

They're super cute daughter, Hong, also got to practice her English with us!

Hong and her e-bike.

In the morning just before we depart.  I think Dad may have been into me.

After staying with the family, it was up rivier...

past a dammed up lake...

over a curiously amiable road...

and finally it was time to split up.  Mike, Minseong, Claire, Mark, and I head to Laos, while Katya and Mirek continue south to Ho Chi Minh city.  (There's a random Vietnamese guy in this photo too.)  Goodbye Vietnam!  Nice knowing ya!  And don't worry, we'll meet Katya and Mirek again soon...
