The first few days after entering Vietnam were full of a lot of muddy, slippery, heavily-trafficked downhill roads. Sooner or later, it had to happen. Trying to evade an oncoming truck, Minseong took a dive and got some bad road rash. I was behind him at the time, so came upon him sitting on the side of the road, covered in dirt, his bike and bags all messed up, in quite a bit of pain. Mingyu and I administered basic first aid (thanks Mom and Dad for the first aid kit!), and we coaxed Minseong into riding to the bottom of the mountain, where luckily there was a village with a very basic medical clinic.
Minseong gets ready for treatment. Good thing he wasn't wearing tightie whities. | The nurse chuckles as Minseong screams and writhes in pain while she cleans his wounds. |
Thank you hill tribe nurse lady! We went to a larger hospital the next day, and it turns out that Minseong doesn't have any other injuries save for the road rash. His scabs look pretty hard core now, and the ladies find him very attractive again. Will post photos soon.
Forebodingly enough, during a rest stop the day before, Mike and Mingyu and I had been role playing our fears of having a bike accident just a day before; even laying in the road pretending to be injured was a little scary. Let's hope that Minseong's injury was a one-time occurrence, and I know I'll try to be even more careful from now on.
