Livin' in a Socialist Paradise

Although North Vietnam won the war and V-land is still ostensibly a communist nation, Vietnam was never as thoroughly communist as some other Soviet-bloc countries, like North Korea and China.  In fact, after the Vietnam War, Vietnam pretty quickly adopted (or fell into?) a sort of chrony capitalist economic policy, helping it to become one of Asia's economic "tigers" and one of the more well-to-do states of Southeast Asia.

Much of what remains of communism in Vietnam appears to be merely symbolic, which I find really interesting in its own right.  Propaganda posters (which someone should translate for me!  Although I feel confident most of them are just the equivalent of a public service announcement), rice padis bespeckled with power line towers and factories, communist-era trucks, etc, were the coolest aspects of communism anyway, and I'm glad they've stuck around here in Vietnam.

The shakies are decidedly incongrous as far as communism goes.
